Penketh (/penketh/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Small Town located in Éïpïnat Hold, Kobian Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Penketh is derived from the Sylvin language, as Penketh was founded by Shnen Dungey, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Penketh has a yearly average temperature of 16°C (60°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 29°C (84°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 3°C (37°F). Penketh receives an average of 281 cm/y (110 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Penketh covers an area of nearly 3 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 1832 m (6010 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Penketh was founded durring the early 11th century, by Shnen Dungey. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Penketh was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Penketh is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Penketh is buildings are arranged arround a network of restrictive flagstone streets which form a diagonal shaped grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town resides behind a palisade wall complete with battlments, a moat, and timber gatehouses with drawbridges. Unfortuantly, these robustly designed timber walls are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

A look around Penketh has something terribly wrong with it. It’s impossible to put one’s finger on, but something is horribly wrong. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scutteling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Maybe it’s everything together. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Penketh long.

Civic Infrastructure

Penketh has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Penketh.

Penketh has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Penketh has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Penketh's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Penketh possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Penketh has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Penketh has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Penketh's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used makes use of a large oblong hall or building with double colonnades and a semicircular apse and symmetrical central-plan, resulting in buildings with a square central mass and four arms of equal length. Decorative features included domed rooves, arches, soaring spaces, and sumptuous decoration: marble columns and inlay, mosaics on the vaults, inlaid-stone pavements, and sometimes gold coffered ceilings.

In Penketh there are unidentifiable people in the fog, but it seems to be okay.

The Wolf near Penketh are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Penketh's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves performance art to channel Chronomancy energies of tier 1 via oratory performances.
